President’s Awards

President’s Medallion Recipients

The Presidential Medallion is considered the highest honor given by the President of the chapter. It is presented in recognition of outstanding representation of the ACF and WSCA fundamental principles, including superior strength of character and continued contributions to ACF our chapter and  the culinary industry as a whole.

Chef Hudson Slater – MarkeTeam Foodservice

Our first Presidential Medallion recipient is Chef Hudson Slater. Chef Slater has been a true force this year through his work at MarkeTeam Foodservice. From leading cooking demonstrations and engaging in community outreach to volunteering his time and driving innovation in our industry through equipment and technology, his contributions have been invaluable. His passion, dedication, and commitment to excellence embody the spirit of this award. Congratulations, Chef Slater!

Dan Miles – MarkeTeam Foodservice

Our second Presidential Medallion is awarded to Dan Miles, Principal at MarkeTeam Foodservice. Dan has been an unwavering supporter of our chapter, not just this past year but for many years. His generosity with his time and resources has ensured that we have everything we need to thrive. Dan and his team at MarkeTeam have made a tremendous impact on our apprenticeship program, providing new equipment and tools that help shape the future of our industry. Dan, your dedication and contributions do not go unnoticed—thank you, and congratulations!

Kevin McGuffin – Harbor Foodservice

Our third Presidential Medallion is awarded to Kevin McGuffin. If you need something done, Kevin is your guy! He has gone above and beyond in his time with WSCA, always stepping up to procure donations of products and supplies, ensuring our events and initiatives run smoothly. Kevin’s thoughtfulness, dedication, and immense contributions—whether through board meetings, events, or simply through his invaluable insights—have made a lasting impact on our chapter. Kevin, congratulations! We are incredibly lucky to have you on our team!

Larry Jordan – Laroux Foods and WSCA Treasurer

Our fourth and final Presidential Medallion is awarded to Larry Jordan Jr. This past year, Larry stepped up to take over the treasurer role after our long-time treasurer moved on, and he hit the ground running without missing a beat. His dedication and leadership have been instrumental in implementing new processes and systems, ensuring we continue to operate smoothly and efficiently. Most importantly, Larry has asked the tough questions, demonstrating his commitment to transparency and excellence. Beyond his role, he is a great human being, a trusted confidant, and someone we can always rely on. Congratulations, Larry!

Partner of the Year Award – Harbor Foodservice

Our Partner of the Year Award recognizes a chapter partner who has demonstrated exemplary service and unwavering dedication to our mission. This award honors a partner who has gone above and beyond—providing invaluable support, resources, and collaboration that help us grow and thrive. Whether through generous contributions, steadfast commitment, or a willingness to step up whenever needed, this recipient embodies what it means to be a true partner in our success. Tonight, we proudly celebrate and express our deepest gratitude to this Harbor Foodservice!

Student Chef of the Year – Sterling Bushnell Jr

Our Student Chef of the Year Award recognizes a student or apprentice chef who demonstrates outstanding habits, dedication, and leadership both in and out of the classroom.

This year’s recipient has been the definition of consistency—showing up, putting in the work, and excelling not just in class and the kitchen, but beyond. Their commitment to learning and growing as a chef has been truly inspiring.

A standout moment this year was their role in the winning team for People’s Choice at the Bite of the Apprentice this past fall—a testament to their skill, teamwork, and passion for the craft.

It is with great pride that we award this year’s Student Chef of the Year to Chef Sterling Bushnell Jr from Red Wind Casino!

Chef of the Year – Anthony Brooks

Our Chef of the Year Award is presented to a chef who exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism through continuing education, training, culinary competitions, and community involvement. This award honors those who elevate the status of chefs and cooks within our chapter and across the industry.

While some years we also present an Educator of the Year Award, this year we do not—but in many ways, our Chef of the Year recipient embodies both honors. I couldn’t think of a more deserving individual for this recognition.

Chef Anthony Brooks is the definition of a professional. As an instructor at Bates Technical College, he is shaping the future of our industry, leaving a lasting impact on his students and our chapter. A 26-year Navy Veteran and Senior Chief, Chef Brooks brings discipline, passion, and dedication to everything he does.

Last year, he was honored as our Educator of the Year, and it’s only fitting that this year, we recognize him as Chef of the Year—a testament to his ongoing commitment and influence.

It is my great honor to present the 2024 Chef of the Year Award to Chef Anthony Brooks!
